A Penitential Order
The presiding celebrant greets the community.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
And also with you.
Bless the Lordwho forgives all our sins.
His mercy endures for ever.
Almighty God,to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Summary of the LawHear the teaching of Christ: you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. This is the first commandment. And a second is this: You shall love your neighbour as yourself.
Spirit of God, search our hearts.
Confession and AbsolutionJesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted.
Let us confess our sins remembering before God the times when we have fallen from temptation into sin.
Silence is kept.
Most merciful God,we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen.
The celebrant stands and says,
Almighty God have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

An Affirmation of FaithLet us declare our faith in the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures; he was buried; he was raised to life on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures; afterwards he appeared to his followers, and to all the apostles: this we have received, and this we believe. Amen.cf 1 Corinthians 15.3-7
